Community Solutions Program Fellow 2016 – Cheerful Hearts Foundation project manager

Freeman Ahegbebu, Project Manager for Cheerful Hearts Foundation’s anti-child labour and trafficking project has been selected as finalist to participate in the 2016 Community Solutions Fellowship Program sponsored by the U.S Department of State.

The community Solutions Program (CSP) is a professional development program for the best and brightest global community leaders working in transparency and accountability, tolerance and conflict resolution, environmental issues, and women and gender issues. Leaders participate in a four month US fellowship with a local nonprofit organization or government agency, structured virtual learning and networking via the online Community Leadership Institute, and the design and implementation of follow-on project in their home countries.

Freeman would be in the U.S from 8th August to 9th December 2016.

Message from Freeman before Departure

“During the fellowship, I hope to learn more about innovating sustainable community solutions while honing my technical and leadership capacity with the aid of a strong professional network and intensive training in management, leadership and problem solving. For me, it is not enough to simply have the skill and knowledge. The ability to convey that knowledge to create a positive forward thinking and empowered community is what I am striving for”.

What Are your Goals Upon Return?

Upon returning from the CSP, my follow-on project would be geared towards creating alternative income generation through the use of gardening initiative in order to alleviate poverty caused by dependency on fishing, and allow children the opportunity to focus on their education.
